Chieti Story: First Games of Season 2016 – 2017

Hello and welcome to a new episode in my Football Manager 2012 story with Chieti. Season 2016 – 2017 has already started after a pretty decent pre-season campaign.

We didn’t start the season that well: it began with a terrible loss against AC Milan and we also got beaten by Cagliari next, only to turn things around in the third game of the new season. However, constancy is certainly not the word to describe our form right now as we don’t manage to keep a good winning streak:

As you can see, we’ve had some really surprising results: we’ve managed to beat Roma away 4-0 after a really solid match where we completely dominated them (except for possession):

Then, we got beaten harder by Inter who are still a very strong team – and having one less man didn’t help either. Strangely enough here, we had a better possession of the ball and stats-wise we played similar to the Roma game. Still, we took it really bad:

However, immediately afterwards, the lads got back on their feet and managed a stunning victory against Juventus, an absolutely unbelievable win with Achim and Adomah in an amazing form. But again we had a lower possession of the ball, so I think that for us this game style suits us better. Strange, though:

After these results, we have a pretty decent standing in the Serie A, with Chieti holding the 8th position. However, we should improve if we want Europe next season (and I certainly do!):

We have some really good displays of form in the team, with Karabacak proving to be able to take us to the next level, but also some surprising performances from Sansone even though he was usually a back-up player and youngster Cuntz. On the other hand, I am largely disappointed with what I was sure was our best signing: midfielder Castellani is having a mediocre, unimpressive start at the team and I already fear that he’s not going to get better.

Financially, though, things look really well. We have almost 20 million in the bank and I plan to spend some of the money as soon as I have the chance, even though I plan to bring the better quality players at the end of next season when hopefully our rankings will be higher and we’ll be able to lure in some top quality lads:

And this is the update for the Chieti story. Thanks for reading and see you soon!

i think that is a good start for chieti, and if your lads manage to focus to have a better consistency then i think that chieti will finish for a european cup spot this season,
    good luck calin

A decent start to the season, with some quite wild results. You’ve scored in every match so far which is a good sign. Hopefully the consistency will pick up a bit more, so you cut out some of the crazy defeats and push higher up for a European spot.

Thanks guys for your words, hopefully we’ll be able to get better.

And yes, Ziggy, I am really happy that we managed to keep scoring. However, we also like to get scored against and 19 goals against in 11 matches doesn’t look good. But in the end, it only matters if we have the most goals scored and get the three points :)

When you say about conceding 19 goals in 11 matches, it makes it sound really bad. If you think about though, 11 of those were from just two of those matches, so it’s more a case of, if you have a bad day, it’s really bad.

  5. Johnny Karp says:

There seem to be some rather unusual ups and downs in terms of performance in your team but I guess things will go more towards the ups going forward ;) Well done so far and good luck for the coming matches!

  6. Calin says:

    Yeah, we’re like a roller-coaster ride :D Hopefully we’ll go up next :D

not a bad start. can’t seem to get anything much going, but it’s not all bad, at least most of those games are wins which is something to be thankful for. hopefully the winter transfer market will be good to you and you can get some good signings to carry on the building of the squad.

I look forward to seeing where you are over xmas.
