Chieti Story: Season 2017 – 2018 Ends

Here it is, a new season ended for Chieti and we once again finished in a better position than last year and improved our chances of winning the first ever Serie A title in the club’s history, but I have the feeling that even though close, we’re still pretty far away.

We managed to end the season at number 4, at the same number of points as Napoli who managed to get the better results against us. It was a solid season though, and I am proud of the lads:

Despite the ton of injuries, we still managed to perform pretty well and even though it was not all wins at the end of the season, as I wanted, we managed to grab some solid results along the way:

We were hammered by Spartak Moscow when we played the away match, but at least we managed to grab a win from them at home – an unexpected one. But the last game for us in Europa League was dreadful and they simply killed us:

On a better note, we did manage to get a surprising win against Juventus, one they will certainly remember for a while now:

Players-wise, Khalid Yildirim had an amazing season, scoring 21 goals and finishing with an average rating of 7.43. And I purchased him from a team in Morocco when we were in Serie B for just 35k! That’s a great deal, I think:

The nice performances throughout the season guaranteed Khalid Yildirim the Fans player of the year award:

And I am really glad to see that Luis Francisco, a signing I am extremely proud of, managed to be considered the best transfer in Serie A (and poor Genoa, on the opposite side!):

Our solid performance in Europe – our first ever appearance in Europe too – also meant that we quickly climbed the chart of the best football clubs in Europe and we’re now at number 70. It’s still a long way to the top, but we’re performing well:

And finally, the strange board that kept declining my requests during the season decided to do the right thing and upgrade the training facilities and the stadium. But we still have such a small stadium (a bit less than 13,000 seats next year):

It has been a good season, clearly the best so far in Serie A and next year we’re moving to the Champions League. I hope for a better season but our reputation and finances are still not good enough to guarantee some of the better players in the world, which means that I will have to keep searching for better options for the team – if any!

A good season, showing a bit more improvement over the previous one. That loss to Spartak Moscow was disappointing, but the complete domination of Juventus was amazing, and must have hurt them badly.

Getting to the Champions League qualifying round is good news. Hopefully you won’t get unlucky in the draw and get someone really nasty.

It’s worrying how the stadium is still going to be so small. That extension while welcome is hardly going to make a big difference to the revenue. The upgrades to the training facilities are definitely very welcome.

Well done on that fourth place, you are slowly but surely consolidating Chieti’s position among the top teams in Italy.

Good season Calin, small improvements once again, and Chieti are now an established European team, so well done :) Great win over Juventus, and Yildirim has to be one of the best signings ever!

  4. Another good season Calin with some good results. Unlucky with the Euro Cup exit but your team is improving every season and with the new facilities I can’t see it being long before you win Serie A. :D

You are slowly getting there mate. 4th place is a good position and too bad about the loss against Spartak Moscow. I am sure if you are given a decent amount of money next season, few quality signings will surely equip you to challenge for the title.
