Chieti Story: Guess Who Won Promotion to Serie A?
I don’t really like to spoil the surprises from the title, but I am so excited by this that I can’t hold it: Chieti have managed to get an unbelievable promotion the Italian Serie A, despite a really bad start of the season in the Serie B (but, as you probably remember, which started to show signs of improvement by mid-season). So, both myself as well as the board where shocked:
We didn’t manage to win the title which went in Sassulo’s pockets (who, by the way, had an unbelievable season with great performances and my team didn’t manage to beat them, for example). However, we did close the gap with Sassulo to 6 points and once again our offense was the best in the league, even though the defense is not something I’m proud with. Here are the standings for the Serie B in season 2014-2015 in Football Manager 2012:
This unbelievable promotion came after an incredible series of results, finishing the season with 15 games without a loss. We’ve also managed to get our biggest win ever against Juve Stabia and that certainly showed the lads that anything is possible:
Players-wise, things went pretty well. It seems that I was right to bring in Geurtjens on load from Arsenal as he quickly climbed to the top of the list of best players. Youngster Uwe Rahn also had an incredible season and he was a joy to watch – 12 goals in 22 games for a winger is great! Here are the overall ratings of the Chieti players:
Strangely, the player of the year went to our fullback Coubronne, not one of the most talented lads in the squad. But probably considering his ratings and the performances he managed to deliver, he deserved this strange award this year:
Here’s how the mediocre Coubronne looks like:
Winning the Serie B also meant that we’ve received quite some money as a prize, which will certainly help us a lot because we’re probably the poorest club in Serie A:
But at least we’ve got our own stadium now, purchased for three millions (bank loan) which is a bit over 7,000 seats. Again, probably the smallest stadium in the Serie A:
Although we were dry on the awards-side this year (excepting the team of the year), I am very pleased with the results and for managing to get the signing of the season (Rahn) and to win an unexpected promotion:
I would say that our life in Serie A will be very, very hard, but again I expected just a mid-table finish this season in the Serie B, so I’m not completely discouraged. Hopefully all will be well. Now we celebrate!

Great to see you keep that run of form going and grab the promotion, which I thought was possible. The prize money for promotion is quite good, unlike the English Championship.
The Serie A should be quite some challenge, but I’m sure you’ll manage to avoid being relegated.
Well done mate some great form that you managed to keep going to get promotion. Next season will be interesting but you look to have a strong side so I’m sure you will avoid relegation. Good Luck
Congrats Calin, you’ve turned it around after a bad start yet again, well done on the promotion! Looking forward to seeing how you get on in Serie A
Congratulations mate, this promotion is an amazing achievement! The transition to the Serie A will surely be tough but I think that you’ll be able to build a strong squad once you receive the TV money for the top flight, should be a good sum.
Thank you guys, indeed it seems that we always manage to be the comeback kings
I took a look at the Serie A player (as if that was needed) and realized that we’re in deep doo-doo
) Finding Serie A quality players is really tough with the money we have on hand, but all I want is for us to stay in the Serie A next season, doesn’t matter what place
Amazing achievments mate! truly fantastic to gain promotion all the way to the top as quickly as you did. Conquering Serie A i feel will probably take you 3 or 4 seasons to do, but i’ve got faith given how well you’ve done so far.
Personally i’ve managed to play a fair bit thus far, i’m in 2022/2023 season now. gotta say, it’s very different 11 years on. Some of the original players remain, but a lot of youngsters that get made up randomly. It’s good to see!
Good luck for the seasons ahead.
Thanks a lot! I can’t wait to reach 2022/2023 and maybe even further, to see the new players and basically be in a brand new world of football
However, as you can see, I unfortunately move a bit slower than you do. But I’ll get there!
I ended up leaving my team after 6 years with them and spent 3 years in spain and 1 year in italy before returning. Pure chance that i got to go back to the same team i started with a few months into the new season.
When i started, i wanted to be like Sir Alex Ferguson. Spend 25 years or so at one club, but found that i got bored after 6 and the players weren’t repsonding the same way anymore it seemed. the fresh challenges made it good.
anyway, just a quick note really! will see what the future brings, but keep up the good work!
