Universitatea Craiova Story: Season 2013/2014 Finale!

Here it is, the finale of the Season 2013/2014 is here and I must admit that, even though it started as an average season, it turned out to be a great one for my Universitatea Craiova team!

The biggest achievement this year was in the Euro Cup (we qualified for the 1st knockout round after finishing 3rd in the Champions League Group Stage). The first draw was Spartak Moscow and all I can say is “Oh, poor Spartak!”

In the second round, we had a tie against Celtic but I was not afraid: I knew that we managed to beat them last season and we’ll do the same now, which was true:

The quarter finals draw was like a hammer: the Italian curse returned and we were placed against AC Milan. But Universitatea Craiova refused to believe the critics and gave everything they had to record two memorable games and qualify for the semi finals!

Only now the real blow came with Real Madrid. We did manage to perform admirably, but their quality was just too much and we lost. However, it was an amazing performance and I was delighted with our games in Europe.

Also, as I hoped, things changed in the Liga I as well: we managed to perform admirably and ended the season once more as champions: not as easy as last season, as you can see in the image below, but it was an amazing run of games:

We’ve had some great results as well and I’m highlighting a few below:

A funny fact also happened this season, with Mineru Motru surprisingly reaching the semi finals of the Romanian Cup, despite being a non-league team (and lacking any kind of gems whatsoever). I did manage to get past them, though but got beaten by Otelul in the finals:

Players-wise, things were pretty nice too: Bratu and Cristea had another amazing season, with Beckford proving to be a good signing as well. Antal was once more the leader of the pack in terms of ratings, followed by my two best performing defenders. Momodou Ceesay is, on the other hand, losing ground and getting destroyed by the new competition level and I will have to sell him, even though he’s a fans favorite:

And, in the end, I won another award for my personal joy:

The ending of my fourth season in Football Manager 2011 makes me think that I have achieved everything that could be achieved managing a Romanian team – Universitatea Craiova in this case – and I am strongly considering starting a new challenge – I will try to win an European Cup this season and decide what to do next :)

Well done on your league win :-)

Yeah, and they still have an amazing team, despite the results against Craiova. We’re simply too good :) )
